Message to de Mistura

His Excellency the UN Envoy to Syria, Mr. Staffan de Mistura:
Greetings from truth and humanity first, and now:
We, the civil and human rights organizations, whose names are below:
We come to address Your Excellency and say: The catastrophic conditions that Syria has witnessed and is witnessing over the past years will undoubtedly have repercussions and effects that will continue for decades and decades, and its bitterness will be tasted by generations after generations. That civil war, that fighting, and many other factors that accompanied it have left behind strife, hatred, and an indescribable rift between all components of Syrian society and have created an atmosphere of mistrust among every component and great fears among them that their rights and dignity will not be preserved and guaranteed.
Therefore, it was our duty and obligation to be extremely responsible and very careful about all of this.
Perhaps the Kurds in Syria are the ones who have the most fear and apprehension, as a result of what they have been exposed to throughout the history of Syria and its successive regimes of injustice, oppression, marginalization, and denial of their most basic rights.
As you know, the Kurds in Syria constitute the second largest component after the Arabs in terms of population percentage. Therefore, it was necessary, right, duty and fair for them to be a party or an essential part of any presence, event or solution related to Syria.
Mr. de Mistura:
It is no longer acceptable to see freedom for one group at the expense of another, and it is impossible to talk about a democratic constitution or a stable political system in Syria without Kurds enjoying equal rights with Arabs. In other words, establishing Kurdish national rights has become a condition for peace, stability, and a solution, and a key to and standard for democracy in Syria.
Whereas what is being proposed now, through your efforts and under your supervision, regarding the study and preparation of a new draft constitution for Syria is one of the most important and prominent of those steps and occasions ever, since the constitution defines, outlines and expresses the basic and most important image and form of the future Syria and the rights and duties of its people and authorities.
Therefore, it was absolutely necessary and obligatory that all Syrian components be truly represented equally and in accordance with their proportions in the constitutional process. Not to mention that this is a fundamental human right guaranteed and stipulated by all divine and positive laws and regulations, including laws, charters, international declarations, agreements, covenants, treaties, customs, and others. We would like to mention, as an example, what is stated in Articles 1 and 2 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
Mr. UN Envoy:
In support of all that was mentioned above in the summary and in support of all the necessities that we trust your experience is sufficient to see, we have come to you requesting:
Working to ensure the presence of real representation and representatives of the Kurdish component alongside other components in Syria, according to their proportions, with experience and expertise in all fields, to prepare the draft of the new Syrian constitution.
We express our complete readiness to contribute and cooperate with you in everything that would ensure the achievement of this and the realization of goodness and peace in Syria.
With great thanks and appreciation.
